If Zheng...

Description

This started off as a mini project to figure out how to create patterns and an idea drawn from my schooling days where the teacher will use the Chinese character "正" (pronounced Zheng) to indicate a total of 5 points (1 for each stroke) whenever we had group contests in class, much similiar to the |||| (and a stroke though) 5 point tally.

And somehow I figured that the character looks so much like "IF", thus resulting in a random typography-like image as such. :)

In the Chinese language, the character "正" when paired with others often has a positive meaning, somewhat in my memory referring to something upright, or good. To be specific ([link]), Wikitionary indicates it represents what's right, proper or correct. Wikitionary also indicates the succession of the strokes, and how it's used interestingly in Asian contexts.

In short, the overall concept behind this is that we often wished that something was done right or in the proper manner, or that something turns out well, but just as the points to be earned in the classroom, we have to go out there and get it done instead of thinking "What if it was done in the proper way? What if it had turned out well?" Perhaps this is taking it a bit far, but anyways, the fullstop indicates that if we have too many "What if"s and no action, it basically is a stop.
